Afro-Jazz:From Botswana to Your Playlist in the USA

When I close my eyes and sing, I’m not just in Botswana—I’m everywhere. Music has this magical way of erasing borders, and jazz is the language that speaks to every soul.

Growing up in Botswana, my earliest memories of music were filled with rhythm and warmth—sounds that told stories of community, resilience, and joy. Jazz became my way of blending those roots with the world’s heartbeat. It’s why Sephonono, my latest album, feels like a conversation between Africa and the globe.

If you’re reading this from New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, know this: I’ve always admired the American jazz tradition. The legends—Coltrane, Ella, Miles—taught us that jazz is freedom. And today, African jazz adds its own voice to that freedom, rich with heritage and soul.

My dream? To stand on a stage in New Orleans, feeling the same energy that birthed jazz, and share a piece of Botswana with you. Until then, let’s connect here. Stream Sephonono, drop me a comment, and tell me what jazz means to you.

Because no matter where we come from, music reminds us—we’re all part of the same song.
