Sunday Reflections From Kenya to

Six years ago, on this very day, I stood in a small church in Malindi, Kenya, listening to a choir whose voices seemed to touch the heavens. Their harmonies were pure, soulful, and filled with grace. That moment stayed with me—it was more than music; it was a spiritual awakening.

The way those voices blended reminded me of jazz: free yet connected, structured yet full of improvisation. It was in that church that I realized how deeply faith and music intertwine. Both speak to the soul, both lift us beyond the ordinary.

Fast forward to today, and that inspiration lives in my music. If you’ve heard my album Sephonono, you’ll know there’s a track called “Precious.” That song is my tribute to moments like Malindi—a prayer in jazz form, celebrating life, love, and faith as the most precious gifts.

As I prepare for a Sunday filled with worship, music and laughter, I carry that memory with me. It reminds me why I sing: to connect, to uplift, and to honor the beauty of the human spirit.

I’d love to hear from you: What music takes you back to a moment that changed you? Share your story in the comments.

And while you’re here, stream “Precious” from Sephonono. Let it be your Sunday melody.
