2016 was a defining year for me as an artist. After the success of my first major project, I felt an unstoppable drive to create something even more impactful. Music has always been my heartbeat, but I wanted to go beyond sound—I wanted to tell a story through visuals. That’s how my second big project came to life: the official video for Mmasonoko.
The Vision Behind Mmasonoko
Mmasonoko was not just a song; it was a cultural statement. I wanted the video to reflect the elegance of African jazz and the vibrant spirit of Botswana. From the very beginning, my vision was clear: bold colors, authentic settings, and a narrative that celebrates our heritage.
The Creative Process
Bringing Mmasonoko to life was both exciting and challenging. I collaborated with an incredible team of creatives—directors, stylists, and musicians—who shared my passion for authenticity. We spent weeks scouting locations that would capture the essence of Botswana’s beauty. Every costume, every backdrop was chosen to complement the rhythm and soul of the music.
Filming Locations
One of the most memorable aspects of creating Mmasonoko was choosing the filming locations. We focused on traditional village scenes to capture the heart of Botswana’s heritage. These settings featured mud huts, open courtyards, and earthy tones that perfectly complemented the rhythm of the music. The authenticity of these locations brought a sense of cultural pride and intimacy to the video, making it feel deeply connected to our roots.
Local Community Involvement
The Mmasonoko video would not have been possible without the incredible support of the local community. Villagers welcomed us warmly and participated in the filming process, adding authentic cultural elements to the scenes. From traditional attire to handcrafted props, their contributions brought depth and realism to the video. Their enthusiasm and pride in showcasing Botswana’s heritage made the project even more meaningful, turning the production into a true community celebration.
Challenges Along the Way
Like any ambitious project, Mmasonoko came with its share of challenges. Budget constraints meant we had to be resourceful, and unpredictable weather tested our patience during outdoor shoots. But these obstacles only strengthened our resolve. Each hurdle reminded me why I started this journey—to create something timeless.
