Sephonono guests on VOW

This morning I had the wonderful privilege of joining Music Fridays on VOW FM 88.1’s OW Breakfast Show, hosted by Greg and Sameea at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
There is something special about radio. As an artist, you spend countless hours writing, rehearsing, recording and performing, often without knowing where your music may eventually travel. Then one day you sit in a studio—or talk to listeners across the airwaves—and you are reminded that music is really about people, connection and shared stories.
During the conversation, I had the opportunity to speak about my journey as an Afro-Jazz vocalist and cultural storyteller, the inspiration behind my music, and the importance of preserving and celebrating our heritage through song. Every composition I create carries a piece of who I am, where I come from and the stories that have shaped me along the way.
I am always encouraged by the growing interest in African jazz and the appetite for authentic, home-grown stories. It gives me hope that our music continues to resonate across borders and generations.
A heartfelt thank you to Greg, Sameea and the entire VOW FM team for the warm welcome and engaging conversation. I am grateful for platforms that support artists and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue around music, culture and creativity.
The journey continues, and I am excited about what lies ahead. As many of you know, I will be returning to Johannesburg next year to perform at Artistry, and I am already looking forward to sharing my music with new audiences and reconnecting with familiar faces.
