Leisong finds a home on Lesedi FM Jazz

There are moments in music that arrive quietly, without fireworks, but still feel deeply important.

Last Sunday evening, one of those moments arrived for me.

My song “Leisong” was played on Lesedi FM, during the station’s Sunday evening Jazz programme. According to Soundcharts, the song aired at 19:42 UTC+2 and was broadcast for 252 seconds — just over four minutes.

For some people, that may sound like a small piece of radio data. For me, it felt like something much more personal.

It felt like a door opening.

Lesedi FM is a major Sesotho-language station in South Africa, and its Sunday Jazz programme is a beautiful space for music that breathes, speaks and carries memory. To hear that “Leisong” found its way there means a great deal to me as a Botswana jazz and soul artist.

“Leisong” is one of those songs that carries feeling beneath the surface. It is not only about melody. It is about memory, reflection, spirit and the quiet places we return to inside ourselves. When I sing it, I feel connected to home — to Botswana, to our stories, to the people who shaped me, and to the journeys that music allows us to take.

That is why this Lesedi FM play feels so special.

It was not just airplay. It was the song travelling across borders and finding listeners in another part of Southern Africa. It was Botswana’s sound entering a respected jazz space in South Africa. It was a reminder that music does not need a passport when it carries truth.

I am especially grateful to Lesedi FM, the Jazz programme, and Lehlohonolo “Kakapa” Tsolo, whose Sunday evening jazz platform continues to give space to music and musicians who honour this timeless genre.

For an independent artist, moments like this matter. Every play, every listener, every station that opens its door helps the music move a little further. It reminds me that the work is worth it — the rehearsals, the recording sessions, the waiting, the uncertainty, and the faith that the right ears will eventually hear the song.
